25 DEAD IN A ROAD ACCIDENT IN HASSAN
On 29-5-2008 a Truck bearing No.CAK-5157 with about 100 people belongs to a Marriage party were traveling from empty Truck from Basavanahally Kopplu village, in Arkalgud taluk towards Agrhara village in Arakalugud taluk. At around 1355 hrs while the truck was moving on Tank Bund Road just before Agrahara Village, the passengers sitting on top of the driver's cabin noticed live electric wires hanging at low level . Fearing that the wire would electrocute them, they alerted the driver by shouting. The driver suddenly stopped the vehicle and with a view to steer clear of the wires, reversed it negligently,as a result the truck fell into an arecanut field 30 feet below. 25 people died on the spot. 21 were female including 2 girls. 4 were male including 2 young boys.
A case in Konanur PS Cr.No.110/08 u/s 279,337,338,304 (A), IPC r/w 184 IMV Act is registered and being investigated. The driver of the truck is reportedly absconding.
